11/3/08 – Here’s the first five pages from the first draft of the competition piece my friend and I had been working on, and had hoped to submit tothe Screenwriting Expo contest this year.  It’s awful.  But, hopefully, it’ll serve as an example of how good work begins.  Enjoy.

10/23/08 — Screenwriting used to be one of those things that looked easy, so I thought I’d give it a try.  Seven years later, I can see what Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, and many many others) meant when he said it was like having homework every night for the rest of your life.

In that time, I’ve read several screenplays, read several books and articles about writing screenplays, and made an honest stab at a grand total of — wait for it — one.  I was hoping to enter it into the Screenwriting Expo contest this month, actually.  But the birth of a child will delay such things.

I freelance feature articles and grant writing for a non-profit org to help pay the bills. I used to write movie reviews for Infuze Magazine before it folded.  I have started work on another screenplay, and as these and other projects develop, my hope is to post examples, and some of the things I’ve learned, here in this place.
